Dell Axim X5 won't turn back on unless I do a soft reset?

if I leave it off for just a few minutes (and uncradled). Acts as if there is no battery power. I have to keep pushing the on/off button until the Dell screen comes up. It isn't losing any of my settings or contents. Once it restarts, both the main and backup battery say 100% power. And, when cradled the power light goes from orange to green almost right away. Any suggestions? I hate to have to go hunting for another one as I really do love my Axim.
