Why do conservatives immediately jump from "helping hand", "pulling bootstraps".. to?

wholesale cradle to the grave wellfare? I don't know any democrats who would promote an idea of "living on the doll" for years on end.. but that is the picture conservatives try to paint.. when that really is not the reality at all.
