If you are inbred, can you turn out fine?

The reason why I'm asking this is because one of my friends just found that her mom and dad are half- brother and sister. Shes totally normall but how is that possible. I always thought incest and inbreeding caused deformities in children. And can she have any kids of her own and should I stop being friends with her ?
